A teapot attributed to the American John Bartlam factory has exceeded all estimates, selling for £460,000. The maker, based in Cain Hoy, South Carolina, circa 1760’s, is thought to be the first American factory to produce porcelain.
The teapot was published with an
estimate of £10,000-£20,000 at Woolley & Wallis in Salisbury. It was sold to the porcelain dealer Rod Jellicoe, who specialises in early English porcelain.
